Helen and Bob Bintz Scholarship

Minimum Requirements. The scholarship recipient must:
  1. Be a resident of Marion County, Ohio for at least 18 consecutive months prior to applying.

  2. Be registered to attend Dayton University, Dayton, Ohio. However, if there are no qualified applicants registered to attend Dayton University, the scholarship recipient must be registered to attend an accredited college or university whose only religious affiliation is to the Catholic Church. The college or university must also normally maintain a regular faculty and curriculum and normally have a regularly enrolled body of pupils or students in attendance at the place where its educational activities are regularly carried on for a course of study that will prepare them for a career.

  3. Have scored in the upper 25th percentiles of the ACT, SAT or other national standardized test commonly used to select students of the applicant’s planned course of study.

  4. Have ranked in the upper 25th percentiles of his or her high school senior class. If the applicant is already attending a college or university, he or she must have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent.

  5. Have timely prepared and filed the application and accompanying documents designated by the Marion Community Foundation for this scholarship.

Criteria for Selection among applicants who meet the minimum requirements:

  1. Academic Achievement. The applicant’s prior academic achievement will be shown by his or her class ranking and the relative difficulty of his or her courses.

  2. Academic Potential. The applicant’s academic potential will be demonstrated by his or her score on the ACT, SAT or other national standardized test commonly used to select students for the applicant’s planned course of study.

  3. Financial Need. The financial need of the applicant will be measured by the cost of the education as compared to the applicant’s financial resources.

  4. Charitable Works. The applicant’s commitment to the Marion community will be shown by the applicant’s charitable activities.

  5. Special Skills. The applicant’s previous activities may demonstrate special skills or talents that will help achieve success in healthcare or medical sciences.

  6. No Prejudice. In making the selection, the committee shall not consider the applicant’s race, age, religion, sex, national origin, ethnicity, or disabilities.

  7. No Relatives. The scholarship shall not be awarded to an applicant who are close relative of Helen Bintz, Bob Bintz, a member of the Selection Committee, a member of the Board of Trustees of Marion Community Foundation, or an employee of the Marion Community Foundation. For purposes of this paragraph, a “close relative” is a spouse, child, parent, grand child, sibling, first cousin, niece, nephew, aunt, or uncle.
