Gary W. Troll Memorial Scholarship

Minimum Requirements. The scholarship recipient must:
  1. Be a senior and a candidate for graduation from one of the following public high schools:

    Marion County:

    Seneca County:

    Wyandot County:

    Elgin Local

    Bettsville

    Carey

    Pleasant Local

    Hopewell-Louden

    Mohawk

    Ridgedale Local

    New Riegel

    Upper Sandusky Local

    River Valley Local

    Old Fort

    Seneca East

    These schools are currently served by the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center.

    In 2003, the scholarship will be awarded to a senior from one of the Marion County schools.
    In 2004, the scholarship will be awarded to a senior from one of the Seneca County schools.
    In 2005, the scholarship will be awarded to a senior from one of the Wyandot County schools. Then in the subsequent years, the rotation will repeat by county.

  2. Be registered to attend an accredited College or University, which normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and normally has a regularly enrolled body of pupils or students in attendance at the place where its educational activities are regularly carried on for a course of study that will prepare them for a career.

  3. Have a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 2.75 on a 4.00 scale, or equivalent.

  4. Have timely prepared and filed the application and accompanying documents designated by the Marion Community Foundation for this scholarship.

  5. Supplement the application by providing a short essay that describes an opportunity(s) the applicant has had to demonstrate his or her leadership skills.

  6. By the scholarship application due date, submit two letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, and/or other member of the community not related to the applicant. The letters should highlight the applicant’s leadership qualities and other qualifications.

  7. Be available for an interview as determined by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Criteria for Selection among applicants who meet the minimum requirements:

  1. Academic Achievement. The applicant’s prior academic achievement will be shown by his or her cumulative G.P.A. and the relative difficulty of his or her courses.

  2. Academic Potential. The applicant’s academic potential will be demonstrated by his or her score on the ACT, SAT or other national standardized test commonly used to select students for the applicant’s planned course of study.

  3. Financial Need. The financial need of the applicant will be measured by the cost of the education as compared to the applicant’s financial resources.

  4. Community Service and School Citizenship. The applicant’s commitment to his or her community and school will be shown by the applicant’s service, leadership, and involvement in extra-curricular activities.

  5. Special Skills. The applicant’s previous activities may demonstrate special skills or talents that will help achieve success in his or her major course of study.

  6. No Prejudice. In making the selection, the committee shall not consider the applicant’s race, age, religion, sex, national origin, ethnicity or disabilities.

  7. No Relatives. The Selection Committee shall not award a scholarship to an applicant who are close relative of: Gary W. Troll, Roberta W. Troll, a member of the Selection Committee, a member of the Board of Trustees of Marion Community Foundation, or an employee of the Marion Community Foundation.  For purposes of this paragraph, a “close relative” is a spouse, child, parent, grandchild, sibling, first cousin, niece, nephew, aunt, or uncle.
